Free Music Resources

We’ve had a few occasions where we needed some royalty free music for projects. But even better than royalty free is completely free! Here are a couple of great resources to get free music for your video or other projects.

First, Kevin Macleod at Incompetech is a fantastic musician and offers lots and lots of tracks for free use — without any payment. These are all original works so this is just a wonderful contribution to the world. He does request a $5 donation if you use his works, but it is completely voluntary. Full details are on his site.

Next, a major hat tip to the folks at the MusOpen! site. This ambitious project is making free use recordings of public domain music available for anyone anytime. They even have a live streaming option so you can play the music in your gallery, restaurant, store or any other public arena — without ASCAP / BMI or anyone else asking you for money. This is a neat endeavor and it deserves our support!
